Homemade Oreos

I use to be a huge fan of Oreo cookies. I have to confess that during my first visit to the USA I use to eat a pack of Oreos almost everyday. The original ones, the golden ones, the minis (my favourites!), the "double stuff", the peanut butter ones... etc.  Not anymore. I find them bland. It really juste taste like sugar, nothing else. And of course they have an extensive scary list of ingredients. This recipe is great. You'll find the same texture and appearance than the "real" oreo cookies but they taste infinitely better and... Christmas cookies

Before moving to the USA I never had a sugar cookie covered with royal icing before. It sounds and look way to sweet for me and we don't have them in France anyway. Whereas in America you can find them everywhere for Christmas, Haloween, Easter.... every occasion as its cookie. I think it's a really American tradition. I'm not sure if they have those cookies here in Australia... Or at least I never saw them. I guess I'll find out by myself in the coming days...I have to admit that although I wasn't really excited by tasting those... [Lire la suite]

You can't make them more french : they are full of salted butter.  All you need are very basic ingredients but make sure to get a really good butter with Guerande sea salt crystals. That's what make all the difference with basic bland cookies and gives this distinctive nutty, buttery sweet-salty flavor. Don't even consider baking them with margarine.... that would kill any french.   Ingredients... [Lire la suite]

The perfect crispy-chewy chocolate chip cookies

There are some recipes that you get satisfied by getting them done just "well". And there are others that you have to get absolutely perfect. I think that classic chocolate chip cookies are one of those things. "The" perfect cookie recipe is an eternal quest, and it takes time to find the holy grail. I don't know anyone who loves to cook that haven't tried tons of chocolate chip cookies recipes.     The best cookies I had so far were from Levain Bakery in NYC. They are huge and really thick, crunchy outside and chewy... [Lire la suite]

Totally chocolate chip cookies

I am a huge fan of Nigella Lawson. I remember watching her show "Nigella bites" on CuisineTV 10 years ago and I've followed her ever since. Every other cook show we had in France on TV before was "Bon appetit bien sur" with Joel Robuchon.or "La cuisine des mousquetaires": with Maite. As much as I love cooking, I've never realy enjoyed that type of cooking shows. Too boring and academic, not to mention that Maite and Joel are not particularely attrative or pleasant to watch. But when Jamie Oliver and Nigella started their shows it was... [Lire la suite]
